Aécio Neves was sworn in as Governor of Minas Gerais State on January 1, 2003. Prior to becoming Governor, Neves served four terms (sixteen years) in the Brazilian Parliament, where he was a leader in Brazil’s Social Democracy Party (PSDB). Prior to joining Parliament, Neves served in a number of government posts, including as Private Secretary to the Governor of Minas Gerais. Neves is a graduate of Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais, where he studied economics.
